Ideas to Overcome the Manufacturing Skills Gap

Bridgeport machine rebuildingWe recently read a great Blog addressing the U.S. Manufacturing skills shortage and wanted to share.

Derek Singleton of Software Advice focuses on something that all manufacturers should implement at their local levels. Most manufacturing facilities have numerous high schools with machine shops and technical schools right in their backyard, but simply fail to implement a plan to grow and nurture this untapped resource.

Recently our management team discussed our workforce issues and it's future. Today, we are very fortunate to have over 150 years of Hand Scraping and Machine Rebuilding experience. On the other hand, our Hand Scrapers are growing older with no sign of younger workers to replace them. This is a medium and long-term problem for any company.

The remedy may not be as simple as just contacting your local high school machine shops and tech schools, but it's a start in planning for today and the future.  Strengthening Educational Partnerships, In-House Training Programs, and Energizing the Workforce of Tomorrow will certainly address the current problems and the future of U.S Manufacturing. We’re exploring this route, so should your company.
